Why Ocean?
Our Calling!

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.  2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness covered the surface of the watery depths, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters.  (Genesis 1: 1-2)

The spirit of the Lord was hovering over the surface of the waters, but nothing was happening!    Until...  God spoke!

Then God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.  (Genesis 1: 3)

And then things started happening! And so it is with our lives, things often feel at a standstill, a dead end, until we hear a word from God!  And when we are saved, we turn to Jesus, and He tells us:

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come on you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”  Acts 1:8 (CSB)

If we believe the gospel, that we are saved by the blood of Jesus, how can we not be witnesses? How can we possibly not share this good news with others?  If we are fearful and timid, then we have ignored the first part of that verse.  We have received power from the Holy Spirit, and when we preach the gospel, it's the Holy Spirit who brings people to salvation.

Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”    Matthew 28:19-20  (CSB)

We have the promise of the power of the Holy Spirit, and we have the promise that Jesus will be with us always, to the end of the age.  The command to witness is for all believers!

In the end, Jesus will come again!

Then they will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory. Mark 13: 26

Look, he is coming with the clouds,
and every eye will see him,
even those who pierced him.
And all the tribes of the earth
will mourn over him.
So it is to be. Amen.    REV 1: 7

As believers we look forward to the end of the age, the triumphant return of Jesus! We wonder "but when, Lord?" The disciples asked Jesus the same thing!

While he was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples approached him privately and said, “Tell us, when will these things happen? And what is the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?” Matthew 24:3 (CSB)

Jesus answered them...

This good news of the kingdom will be proclaimed in all the world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.  Matthew 24:14 (CSB)

Can we possibly preach the word to all nations in our lifetimes? Can we see the return of Jesus in our lifetimes?

He told them, “The harvest is abundant, but the workers are few. Therefore, pray to the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest. Luke 10: 2 (CSB)

The answer is yes! Evangelists are being trained and equipped and sent out to reap the harvest!  Evangelists are collaborating, coming together to share opportunities and resources.  The Joshua Project has compiled data on all the world's people groups and categorized those that are unreached.  Of the 17,434 people groups, 7,407 are unreached (~42%). This is roughly 3.28 billion people.

If we can double the number of salvations each year, we would increase from 1 million per year (that's a number just reflecting CFAN's recent results in Nigeria) to 1 billion per year in just 10 years, and 4 billion in 12 years!  Considering all the other evangelistic efforts, including church planting, missionaries, and digital ministries, then yes, the goal to proclaim to all the world is possible!

But we preach to the masses to save the one!

Jesus taught us that he is intense in his determination to seek and save the lost.

So he told them this parable:  “What man among you, who has a hundred sheep and loses one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the open field and go after the lost one until he finds it?  When he has found it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders,  and coming home, he calls his friends and neighbors together, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, because I have found my lost sheep!’  I tell you, in the same way, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous people who don’t need repentance.  Luke 15: 3-7 (CSB)

Street evangelism, outreaches to communities in need, and one-on-one witnessing are all equally valued by God!  Jesus is drawn to sinners and sufferers. Everywhere he went he fed the hungry, healed the sick, cast out demons and gave forgiveness of sins.  And he told us:

"Go and do likewise" (Luke 10:37)

Maxwell's Equations, the mathematical translation of the scripture!.

Genesis 1:3 is the first command of creation, a word from God that created light.

Maxwell T-shirt image_edited.jpg

A word is something that contains information, knowledge, wisdom, a plan and power.   With a word from God, an intricately designed, radiant phenomena called light was formed from a formless void.

In 1861 James Maxwell looked at a simple experiment using electricity in an attempt to solve a riddle. The experiment was connecting a battery to both sides of a capacitor. The capacitor was simply two metal plates held close to each other without touching.  The riddle was that when its first connected, an electrical current can be measured. But a current requires a closed path to conduct the current. The capacitor is a break in the circuit, its open and no current can flow across the plates.

Maxwell used 3 existing equations for electric fields (Coulomb's Law), electrical currents (Ampere's law) and electromagnetism (Gauss's Law) to describe the setup.  The fourth equation was his. It described what happened across the plates of the capacitor.  As the charge built up in the plates, a changing electric field formed, and this changing electric field created a magnetic field. The equation solved the puzzle of the capacitor charging, but it also showed that energy passed between the plates as an electromagnetic wave, something no one had ever seen.

Maxwell's equation also predicted the speed of that wave, and Maxwell was stunned to realize it was the same as the speed of light! This was the first time that light was recognized as an electromagnetic wave.  The equation was also used to predict the possibility of radio waves and other phenomena. Maxwell's equations are considered one of the cornerstones of modern physics and technologies like lasers, radar, microwaves and spectroscopy.

"The Unreasonable Effectiveness of Mathematics in the Natural Sciences" is a 1960 article by the physicist Eugene Wigner.

Wigner explained that very crude and simple experiments often led to mathematical descriptions that proved to be very accurate. Maxwells equations are a prime example. Anyone can literally re-create Maxwells experiments with simple parts from a hardware store! Yet the equations explain the very nature of light and the existence of forms of energy that were unknown.

Wigner concluded his paper with this, "The miracle of the appropriateness of the language of mathematics for the formulation of the laws of physics is a wonderful gift which we neither understand nor deserve. We should be grateful for it and hope that it will remain valid in future research and that it will extend, for better or for worse, to our pleasure, even though perhaps also to our bafflement, to wide branches of learning."

Thank you God!

Are Maxwells Equations God's word . . . spectacular in their simplicity, elegance and accuracy and wonderful to contemplate in observing God's creation? The equations not only explain an electrical circuit, they come with a revelation about the nature of light! Scriptures tell us that God is light!

Did Maxwell invent his 4th equation, or did he "discover" God's word in the math?

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 All things were created through him, and apart from him not one thing was created that has been created. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of men. 5 That light shines in the darkness, and yet the darkness did not overcome it. John 1: 1-5 (CSB)

And the Word was Jesus!
